Soon after a Kiwi entrepreneur developed a novel smartphone app that
can monitor users' outdoor activities and ensure they get home safe,
Google has come out with a new tool that will let users track their lost
Android phones on a map. Not just track, the user can even ring and
remotely erase all the data on the phone.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://venturebeat.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/google-android-recovery.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="http://venturebeat.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/google-android-recovery.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Apple, Microsoft and BlackBerry have been offering online
utilities, namely Find My iPhone, BlackBerry Protect, and Find My Phone,
respectively, that let owners of phones track the location of their
handsets, lock them, trigger an alarm and wipe data remotely, for a long
time. Google is late to the party. However, making the utility a part
of Android would benefit a large number of users. Handset makers like
Samsung and HTC already offer similar tools with their Android phones –
yes, Google did not offer the same on its own phones! Sony had also
started rolling out its remote security service "my Xperia," in July.

While third-party services offered by companies like McAfee,
Norton, Quickheal and Kaspersky, among others also offer mobile security
services, they charge users for the service.
<br />
In a post on the official Google blog, Benjamin Poiesz, an
Android project manager, wrote, "Android Device Manager can help
(you)... keep your device and the data you store inside your phone safe
and secure."
<br />
Android Device Manager will allow users to make their misplaced
phone ring at its loudest volume even if it is in silent mode. However,
users will be able to do this through Android Device Manager, website
though Google said that it would also offer an Android app for the
service at a later date.
<br />
In case you have lost your phone outside your house you will be
able to see the device on a map if it is switched on and follow it in
real-time. It may help you recover the phone. But in case it can't be
recovered, Android Device Manager will allow users to wipe it securely
so that the private data doesn't fall in wrong hands.<br />
"While losing your phone can be stressful, Android Device Manager can
help you keep your data from ending up in the wrong hands," wrote
Poiesz. </div>

We have already compared the new kid on the block the Nokia Lumia 1020 with the Apple iPhone 5, but we thought we would see how the device stacks up with the market leading Android smartphones.<br />

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has the biggest display at 5-inches that is a Super AMOLED screen at a Full HD resolution with 441ppi<br />
<strong>Processor</strong><br />
Nokia has fitted a dual core 1.5GHz processor to the Lumia 1020 which compares to the Galaxy S4 that either uses a 1.9GHz quad-core <span style="font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; position: static;"><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">Snapdragon </span><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">processor</span></span> or the 1.6GHz Exynos 5 Octa unit, while the HTC One uses the Qualcomm quad core Snapdragon 600 clocked at 1.7GHz.<br />

<br />
<strong>Cameras</strong><br />
This is where arguably the Nokia wins out as it features a massive 41-megapixel rear camera that is coupled with a 1.2-megapixel front facer, while the HTC One uses the 4MP UltraPixel unit on the back with 2.1-megapixel around the front. On the Galaxy S4 Samsung has supplied a 13-megapixel rear facer with a 2-megapixel unit around the front.<br />

Google Inc. on Wednesday is expected to unveil
a new tablet powered by its Android operating system as it looks to
boost Android’s lead over Apple Inc.’s iPad in terms of market share for
tablets.<br />
Several retailers that are expected to carry the Android tablet, the
second generation of the 7-inch Nexus 7, released details about its
components and specifications before Wednesday’s expected announcement
in San Francisco.<br />
<a href="http://static.ibnlive.in.com/ibnlive/pix/sitepix/07_2013/main-1-google-new-nexus-7-2-240713.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://static.ibnlive.in.com/ibnlive/pix/sitepix/07_2013/main-1-google-new-nexus-7-2-240713.jpg" width="400" /></a>The Nexus device, designed by Google in partnership with an Asian
hardware manufacturer, is powered by an updated version of Android,
which also is the No. 1 software for smartphones.<br />
The company is currently at work on a major update of Android
software that is expected to be unveiled sometime later this year.
Nearly a billion Android devices have been activated since 2008, the
company has said, allowing Google to ensure that its revenue-generating
services such as Google Search have a guaranteed spot on people’s mobile
devices.<br />
The new tablet, which is expected to be available for sale at Best
Buy Co., Wal-Mart Inc.’s Sam’s Club, and PC Connection Inc. next week,
costs $229 with 16 gigabytes of storage and $269 for 32 gigabytes,
according to information on Best Buy’s website that was later removed.<br />
That compares to $329 for the 16-gigabyte iPad mini, an 8-inch tablet, and $429 for the 32-gigabyte version.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
According to the Best Buy site, the Nexus 7 has a high-definition
display that is more advanced than that of the iPad, but its 1.5GHz
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor is less advanced than
some Android enthusiasts had expected.<br />
Google’s support for the Nexus tablet serves several purposes,
including the need to compete with Amazon Inc.’s $159 Kindle Fire
tablet, a formidable threat to Google. Unlike the majority of Android
devices, Amazon’s tablet uses a separate version of Android that doesn’t
come with Google services preinstalled. (Android is a free,
open-sourced software, so it is available to anyone.)<br />

Google also is expected to sell the Nexus 7 device directly to
consumers through its Google Play online store, just as it did for the
first generation of the device. The Nexus 7, which is built by
Taiwan-based Asustek Computer Inc. in close collaboration with Google’s
Android unit, became the most successful device in the history of the
Nexus program—at one point selling at a rate of about one million
devices per month—after being launched last year. Typically, Nexus
devices cater to hardcore fans of Android and are meant to show hardware
makers what they can do with the Android operating system, but aren’t
meant to be big sellers.<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br />
Still, Asus-made tablets still were a distant No. 4 behind Apple,
Samsung Electronics Co. and Amazon in terms of shipments during the
critical fourth quarter of last year, according to research firm IDC.<br />
The Nexus 7 succeeded in part because it was the most advanced
Android-powered tablet on the market at the time and thanks to its low
$199 price tag and significant marketing push by Google, which some
analysts believe subsidized the device so that it cost the same as
Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet at the time.<br />
Amazon has yet to release the next version of the Kindle Fire, which
is expected to be available before the fourth-quarter shopping season.<br />
Unlike Apple, which generates hefty profit from the sale of hardware,
Google and Amazon play a different game. Google, which does get an
undisclosed cut of Nexus 7 sales, simply wants as many Android-powered
devices in the market because they are preloaded with revenue-generating
services such as YouTube, Google Search and Google Maps. Amazon’s bet
is that customers will use its tablet to shop for products and digital
media that is sold by Amazon.<br />
For Google, increased sales of Android tablets can help its financial
results in the short term, as prices for online ads viewed on tablets
are higher than for ads viewed on smartphones and nearly in line with
ads viewed on PCs. The rise of smartphones has weighed on Google’s
revenue growth in recent quarters.<br />
Apple, meanwhile, said on Tuesday that it sold fewer iPads during the
second quarter of this year versus last year, amid what CEO Tim Cook
described as “channel inventory churn” and the fact that it had been a
year since the last iPad release.<br />
Overall, tablet shipments this year are expected to reach 230 million
worldwide, up 58% from 144.5 million, according to IDC. Such sales
would mean tablet shipments would exceed those of laptops, the firm
said.<br />
During the first quarter of this year, Android tablets grabbed 56% of
the market, up from 41% during the same period last year. Apple,
meanwhile, saw its share drop to 39% during the first quarter of this
year from 57% in 2012.<br />
Microsoft’s Windows tablets took 5% of the tablet market during the
first quarter, up from 1% a year earlier. The company last week took a
$900 million write-down due to disappointing Windows tablet sales.</span><br />

sub-continent has not been revealed either, but going by the current

Dimension-wise, the phone measures a slim 6.5 mm thickness and weighs
a surprising 212 grams. Keeping in mind the display size as well as the
powerful processor, this is quite good. The smartphone makes use of an
aluminium chassis instead of the plastic one seen in Xperia Z for added
durability. The smartphone also features 2GB of RAM as well as an Adreno

One of the announcements which didn’t get much attention at this
year’s I/O, was about Play Store web getting redesigned. It’s kind of
hilarious but Google took this much time to release the redesigned Play
Store (almost two months). The Android Play Store app too got
redesigned a month back.<br />
To sum up the design of the new Play Store web in one sentence – it’s like Android, <i>on the Web</i>.<br />
<a href="http://devilsworkshop.org/files/2013/07/Screen-Shot-2013-07-16-at-5.52.52-PM.gif"><img alt="Play store" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-76590" height="368" src="http://devilsworkshop.org/files/2013/07/Screen-Shot-2013-07-16-at-5.52.52-PM-600x368.gif" width="600" /></a><br />
As you open the website, you’ll see a clean header image notifying
you about the redesign. The icons have all the attention, in the new
design. This is not expected, because generally app icons in Android are
very inconsistent in size and never have a harmony between them.<br />
The colors will look amazing. It’s the same ones you see on the Google’s new Android apps like Play Books, Movies and so on.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5375747506480780";

<div style="text-align: left;">
The app pages also look very good now. Screenshots will be viewed in
full sizes and everything is nicely laid out. The Editor’s Choice page
looks stunningly good because of the Roboto Slab. It’s the same typeface
you see in Google Keep app and now it’s on Play Store web.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You can now also manage your Wishlist items right from the website. This functionality was so badly needed.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Play Store is of course not just about apps, so even the Movies, Books and Music sections look nice. There are a few inconsistencies like this which can be easily fixed.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also see a “Redeem Gift card” option in the sidebar, after seeing
which I got excited, but as it turns out, gift cards aren’t yet
available in India.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If there’s one thing I miss in the new Play store, both the Web and
Android versions, that’s the featured sections. Google has to bring that
back.</div>

Google is hosting an event on the 24th to reveal a
few things, but one of the key components, <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/05/android-43.html" target="_blank">Android 4.3</a>, had already
leaked online.</div>
We reported yesterday that Google is
planning an event on the 24th of July where Sundar Pichai will possibly
be unveiling the next <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/07/the-new-nexus-7.html" target="_blank">Nexus 7</a> and Android 4.3, but today we’ve got word
that Android 4.3 for the Nexus has already been leaked.<br />
<br />
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5375747506480780";

<script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript">

<div style="text-align: left;">
The leak comes courtesy of <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/18/4534690/android-4-3-jelly-bean-revealed-via-leak" target="_blank"><i>The Verge</i></a>
who managed to get their hands on a Nexus running the Android 4.3
operating system. They are reporting that the changes in Android 4.3 are
minor, but definitely noticeable and worthy. For starters, the camera
app has received some minjor updates and now resembles that found in the
Google Play editions of <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/04/samsung-galaxy-s4.html" target="_blank">Samsung Galaxy S4</a> and <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/04/htc-one-x.html" target="_blank">HTC One</a>. </div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<a name='more'></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The other change comes to the dialer, which will now pop up suggestions
from your phonebook as you start typing a number. The Verge reports that
this feature isn’t on by default, but can be activated from the
settings. It is also possible that when the OS finally ships officially,
Google would have tweaked it to have auto-suggestions on by default.The
updated operating system will now be able to utilize Bluetooth Low
Energy (BLE), which means you'll be using much less battery when
connecting to compatible wearable devices. Lastly, there's some new
advanced visual effects in games and apps thanks to OpenGL for Embedded
Systems 3.0.</div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
</h3>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
So far, these are the only changes being reported in Android 4.3, making
this update not as significant as many users had hoped it would be, but
still important enough that they must have it. For a full run-down on
the OS, we’d still recommend waiting till the 24th when the head of
Android development, Sundar Pichai takes the stage to officially unveil
the OS.</div>

<span class="cap" title="I">I</span>t’s now been more than a year since the Nexus 7 was launched
on the market and some are already looking to get their hands on the
next model. We don’t yet how it will be called, but Nexus 7 2 sounds
really bad, so maybe Google will use Apple’s tactic here and just call
it “<b>the new Nexus 7</b>“. Whatever the name will be, we seem to have some leaked pictures and a video of what appears to be the new Nexus 7.</div>
The leaks also involve the pricing of the new Nexus 7 and given the
fact that we’re nearing Google’s event on July 24, this makes the new
information seem pretty legit. Google didn’t announce the successor to
the Nexus 7 at its annual I/O conference, therefore we have all the
reasons to assume they will do so on the upcoming event, called ”<i>breakfast with Sundar Pichai</i>“.
If you don’t know, Sundar Pichai now oversees Android’s development
after Andy Rubin’s leave. A new Android version might be unveiled, as
well; and, who knows, maybe the Moto X?<br />

Just like the first Nexus 7, the new model also seems to be
manufactured by Asus, despite of various rumors on this matter that
suggested Google might side with a different OEM. WiFi-only versions
will definitely be cheaper, but most of us will obviously look for the
models with cellular data connections, because, how else to enjoy
Internet on-the-go, right?<br />
According to a leaked inventory screen, also obtained by
AndroidCentral, the 16GB version of the Nexus 7 will be priced at $229
and the 32GB version at $269. We don’t have yet details on what models
these are, but let’s hope they will also come with 4G, or at least 3G.
And the prices are actually quite good, if you consider the leaked
specs:</span>

<span style="font-weight: normal;">
Engadget was also tipped off and it seem that retailers like OfficeMax will start getting the renewed Nexus 7
version from July 20, which is so close. Perhaps we’ll see some more
leaks, as that happens. Until then, I will leave you with the leaked
video, as promised, of what seems to be Nexus 7′s successor.</span></h3>

<img alt="Nokia Lumia 1020 vs Lumia 925 vs Lumia 920 vs 808 PureView what's changed" data-src-height="310" data-src-width="619" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/07/nokia-1020-925-920-808-1373556782.jpg" />Nokia's sure taken its time, but its 41-megapixel Windows Phone beast is now finally out of the bag.
Naturally, we have to compare this Lumia 1020 with its recent siblings:
externally it's closer to the 920 than the slimmer 925 or 928, except
for its earpiece and, well, the camera. That said, the 1020 is somehow a
lot lighter and a little thinner than the bulky 920, while packing the
same 2,000mAh battery. Clearly, the lack of built-in Qi wireless
charging and perhaps that Gorilla Glass 3 screen are responsible for this weight loss.<br />
And needless to say, the Symbian-powered 808 PureView
didn't come with as many goodies compared to its Windows Phone cousin
-- even the newer lens is faster with six elements instead of five. Feel
free to check out our detailed comparison table after the break.<br />

Google has taken steps to make this new version more useful with a
Foursquare-like Explore feature. The Explore section of this updated app
shows some interesting places nearby to dine, drink, sleep or play. It
seems like Google brought the Google Now cards-like interface to Google
Maps. The sections in Explore and Navigation will show information to
you in the form of <i>Cards</i>.<br />

Google Maps v7.0.0 also rates place with 5 star rating system. This
helps you find useful places. Offers from the multinational brands like
Toys “R” Us and Michael’s are shown right inside this app. Zagat also
works in partnership with Google to rate good restaurants.<br />

Before we look at spying apps for Android, we must take a look at
some spying services that serious customers would want to use. These are
a good choice for business owners that want to monitor how their
employees are using the phones, or for overprotective parents that want
to know every step their child makes and whoever he calls.<br />
As mentioned before, be sure to check your local laws before you
commit to using these services, as it might be illegal in some parts to
spy on others. These services are professional and they offer users a
great deal of features for smartphone monitoring. Also, most of them are
undetectable, so the targeted phone will show no signs of being spied
upon.<br />
If you want to invest your money into such a service, and
you have a valid reason to spy on another Android device, then here’s a
list of features that these services will provide:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i2.wp.com/www.crazyandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Android-Spy.jpg?fit=1024%2C1024" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="395" src="http://i2.wp.com/www.crazyandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Android-Spy.jpg?fit=1024%2C1024" width="640" /></a></div>
<ul>
<li>GPS location tracking</li>
<li>Voice calls and call log monitoring (some actually pick up the conversation and you can listen to it live)</li>
<li>SMS monitoring</li>
<li>Browsing History</li>
<li>Installed apps</li>
<li>View multimedia files on the targeted phone</li>
<li>Mobile data usage</li>
<li>Remote voice recording<a name='more'></a></li>
</ul>
As you can see, there are lots of things these services offer,
and the list does not stop there. However, these services are not free,
and some of them can cost a pretty penny, so be sure you will get what
you need from them, as there is no point in paying for features you
don’t need, or later finding out that the service you chose does not
offer the features you need. Here are some examples of such Android
spying software that you can use:<br />
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.phonesheriff.com/" target="_blank">Phonesheriff</a></li>
<li><a href="http://www.mobile-spy.com/" target="_blank">Mobile-Spy</a></li>

<li><a href="http://www.stealthgenie.com/index.html" target="_blank">Stealthgenie</a></li>
</ul>
There are also a number of apps that one might use to spy on an
Android device. Some of them are even worth using on your own phone, as
an added protection feature to keep your files safe or to recover your
phone if it is stolen or lost.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

someone, use Silent Spy, as it overlaps another screen over the camera

These Android spy apps will allow you to add some extra features to
your device that will give it a plus of functionality. However, they
should be used responsibly and with caution, and in any way to gain
access to confidential information of others.</div>

<a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/05/spotify-updated-with-new-features.html" target="_blank">Spotify</a> has a lot of things going for it, but the experience of <i>using</i> it isn’t necessarily among them. On Tuesday, the company moved to address some of those shortcomings with an update that primarily affects iPhone and iPod touch users. Oh, and there’s a new icon to go along with it.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<figure class="right medium"><figcaption>The road to discovery is paved with Discover.</figcaption></figure>
First is the Discover feature, which suggests artists and albums you
might enjoy based your previous listening habits. It also shows new
releases from bands you enjoy. You can save any suggested album as a new
playlist to listen to later, or select <i>Play Next</i> under a
suggested artist to start playing a mix of tracks. Discover (which is
also available on the desktop/Web app and is coming soon to other mobile
devices) replaces Spotify’s <i>What’s New?</i> section, and there
doesn’t seem to be a way to get it back if you so desire. Unlike on the
desktop, the iPhone app shows Discovery items in one long,
ever-scrolling list, which makes it slightly less useful and harder to
navigate.Another cool addition is the ability to edit playlists directly on your
iPhone. When viewing a playlist, tap the three dots in the upper right
corner and you’ll see a green <i>Edit</i> button, followed by gray <i>Share</i>, <i>Start Radio</i>, and <i>Make Collaborative</i> options as well. Tap Edit and you can rearrange or delete tracks on the fly.
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Spotify also touts a “shiny, new Now Playing view, featuring the ‘Up
Next’ queue” but in my quick run through it didn’t appear that the Now
Playing view had changed at all.
<br />
Other changes include reordering of the search tabs, improved Ford
integration, and better track counts in playlist folders. And Spotify
promises it’ll bring the new features to “everyone” soon.

Nokia Lumia 1020. Now, he has shared an alleged press render of this
smartphone. From this image, it appears that the Nokia Lumia 1020 will
be available through AT&T.<br />
This seems to be in line with the
earlier rumours that indicated that Nokia's flagship camera smartphone
will be making its way to AT&T in the United States. <br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The
smartphone seems to be very similar in design to the <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/05/lumia-920-now-32639.html" target="_blank">Nokia Lumia 920</a>. Some of the earlier leaked pictures suggested that
the Nokia Lumia 1020 will come with a metallic body rather than a
polycarbonate one. However, from this image it is hard to ascertain
whether Nokia EOS will indeed come with a metal-clad body. <br />
It also appears the Nokia Lumia 1020 will come with a 'Nokia Pro Cam' application, which may offer advanced controls.<br />
As
per earlier rumours, the Nokia EOS will sport an OLED display, which
has a screen resolution of 768X1280 pixels and 32GB of internal storage.
It is also touted that the Nokia EOS will offer Xenon flash. This
smartphone is also expected to run on Nokia's 'Amber' Windows Phone
software update.<br />
The Amber update was unveiled at the time of the launch of Nokia <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/05/nokia-launches-lumia-925.html" target="_blank">Lumia 925</a>.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been spotted running Android 4.3
Samsung's Galaxy S4 has been spotted running <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/05/android-43.html" target="_blank">Android 4.3</a> Jelly Bean.<br />
The update was spotted by SamMobile running on the Google Edition of the <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/SAMSUNG" target="_blank">Samsung</a> Galaxy S4, which is currently only available in the US.<br />
The test build is flagged as version JWR66N.S005.130625. The JWR66N
part of the build name refers to the Android version, while S005.130625
is Samsung's own build tracking code.<br />

The screenshots show Android 4.3 will feature a new camera interface
with a circular navigation control. The new camera interface is already
available on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Editions, so we
assume it will be coming to all stock Android handsets too when the
update starts to roll out.<br />
Android 4.3 has been spotted running on the HTC One and Nexus 4 so
far, but it may not be too long until the update is rolled out
officially.<br />

According to sources, the HTC One will be getting the Android 4.3
update this month, although the Tweet confirming this only said the
Google Edition of the device will be getting the update at this stage.
Presumably that's because HTC doesn't have to worry about testing the
device with its HTC Sense UI.<br />

A new camera has been developed that can capture the whiff of your first pet or the smell of the seaside holiday.<br />
Designer
Amy Radcliffe's MA project at Central Saint Martins set out to bring a
more meaningful sensory dimension to storing our favourite memories.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://tec.hdsb.ca/~irishm/S08DCA6EA.0/camera-cartoon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://tec.hdsb.ca/~irishm/S08DCA6EA.0/camera-cartoon.jpg" width="377" /></a></div>
What
if you could recapture the aroma of that freshly baked birthday cake,
or the scent of the wild flowers in that Alpine meadow on your last
holiday? Or maybe you would choose to recall the musky pong of your
first pet, or the comforting whiff of that shampoo your girlfriend used
to use?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The Madeleine - named after Marcel Proust's story of
involuntary memory prompted by biting into a cake - is Radcliffe's
design for a new kind of camera that records not images, but smells.<br />
Her
project, developed in the college's Textile Futures department, draws
on "headspace capture" techniques pioneered in the 1970s by Swiss
fragrance chemist Roman Kaiser, for obtaining the composition of rare
botanical scents for the perfume industry.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Radcliffe's "
scentograph y" camera has a retro-futuristic form, referencing both this
70s heritage and our growing nostalgia in photography - embodied by
clunky Lomo cameras and wistful Instagram filters.<br />
With its faceted ceramic casing, glass funnel and plastic tubes, it also looks like a mysterious piece of scientific apparatus.<br />
To
make it work, you place the funnel over the object or environment you
wish to capture, then a pump sucks the air across an odour trap made of
Tenax - a porous polymer resin which adsorbs the volatile particles that
make up the smell.<br />
It can take anything from a few minutes to
capture the scent of fresh strawberries, to around 24 hours to store the
more subtle aroma of an atmosphere. <br />

If a report from <a href="http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/122070-huawei-ascend-p6-google-edition-in-the-works" target="_blank">Pocket-lint</a> is to be believed, Huawei is working on the Nexus edition of its flagship Ascend P6 smartphone, which will run stock Android.
<br />
"We are working with Google to analyse the possibility of
bringing out a Huawei Ascend P6 with Google Edition," Pocket-lint has
quoted Kevin Ho, president of the handset product division at Huawei, as
saying.
<br />
Unveiled on June 18 this month, the Huawei Ascen P6 measure
mrerely 6.18 mm thick. It has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera,
designed for taking "selfies", or pictures of the owner to be shared on
social media networks.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Running Android 4.2.2 OS, the smartphone features a 4.7-inch high
definition in-cell display and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core
processor.
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Its 8 megapixel rear-facing BSI camera with F2.0 aperture and 4cm
macro view also enables 1080p full HD video recording and playback.
<br />
It seems that the the top-of-the line smartphones from tech
gaints running stock Android is the latest fad, and a young strategy to
gain a new market share.
<br />
We have already seen the Galaxy S4 and HTC One Nexus editions,
and the Internet is abuzz with reports that Sony is also planning to
bring the Xperia Z Google edition.

The Android powered gaming console would give access to content available on Android.</h3>
</span></span></span></h2>
<span itemprop="articleBody"> </span><br />
Google,
after dominating the smartphone and tablet market with Android, is now
working on doing the same for gaming consoles as well. As reported reported,
Google is developing an Android powered gaming console that would offer
users the opportunity to play Android games right on their big screen
televisions.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://r.phonedog.com/shared/images/2013/6/178159-androidfiguretitle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://r.phonedog.com/shared/images/2013/6/178159-androidfiguretitle.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
However, the device is expected not to be very different from the Android powered micro-computers presently available in the market.
But since the device would be made by Google advanced features and
support for external controllers and other devices is expected.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
The console would make absolute sense and would give an opportunity
to users to access content and applications available on the Android
platform already. In contrast with other gaming consoles which presently
suffer due to high cost of gaming titles, the Android powered console
would offer the same at a fraction of a cost and much faster
availability considering the present scenario. Going forward high
definition titles are also expected to offer console quality games as
well.<br /><script type="text/javascript"><!--

Along with the Android powered gaming console, Google is also
reportedly working on an Android powered wrist watch device as well. The
wearable Android device would be built offering similar features as the
popular <b><a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/06/sony-waterproof-smartwatch-and.html" target="_blank">Sony Smart watch</a></b>.
But Google is expected to arm it with much more features than existing
smart watches of various companies that mostly work as notifications
enabled gadget.<br />

Google finally put the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus,
also known as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition, up for sale on the
Google Play Store alongside the HTC One Nexus. The device is an
intriguing device for those that are in the market for a new device,
however those who have been eying it should be aware of several of its
properties before taking the plunge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.sammobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/s4-google.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://www.sammobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/s4-google.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
At Google I/O 2013 in San Francisco, Google took the curtain down
from around a new Nexus smartphone. It wasn’t the Nexus 5 or the white
Nexus 4, the latter of which made its debut a few weeks ago, but a new
Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition that carries features of Google’s Nexus
smartphone, the Nexus 4, and thus, its Galaxy S4 Nexus name.<br />
Like its non-Google Edition brother, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus is a
device that is worthy of a look, not just from Android enthusiasts but
from average consumers as well.<br />
The device boasts many of the same features of the current Samsung
Galaxy S4 including a 5-inch display that features 1080p resolution, a
quad-core processor that can handle gaming and multitasking, a 13MP
camera that performs admirably in low-light environments, and of course
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Of course, the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board
the Google Edition is far different than the Jelly Bean found on the
regular Galaxy S4 as its virtually vanilla in flavor.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The device joins the HTC One Nexus and the Nexus 4 on shelves, the
Nexus 4 of course being the elder statesmen, and it immediately becomes
an Android device that should be considered alongside the best of 2013.<br />
Like all smartphones though, there are some important details that
consumers should know about before looking into buying the Samsung
Galaxy S4 Nexus. Here now are the five things that consumers need to
know about the newly released Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus (Google Edition).<br />
<h2><script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5375747506480780";
google_ad_host = "pub-1556223355139109";
/* gadget info top right */
google_ad_slot = "9388923155";
google_ad_width = 728;
google_ad_height = 90;
//-->
</script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>
Expanded Storage</h2>
One of the nice things about the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus is that it
keeps the microSD card slot which means that users can expand storage
beyond the 16GB.This is a luxury that the HTC One Nexus does not have as it is limited
to 32GB of internal storage space. Users should be able to use 64GB
microSD cards to expand to 80GB of space, something that will be a
benefit to power users.<br />
Of course, to fully take advantage of the microSD card, users will
have to root. And that will be extremely easy since the device comes
ready for full on customization.<br />
<h2>
Faster Upgrades May or May Not Happen</h2>
While these devices take on many of the characteristics of Nexus
smartphones, near vanilla Android and unlocked bootloaders, it looks
like they may not get updates straight from Google. A discovery by <i>AnandTech</i> <a href="http://anandtech.com/show/7107/htc-one-and-samsung-galaxy-s-4-google-play-edition-review-nearly-nexus/2">points</a>
to the kernels be provided by OEMs meaning HTC and Samsung, not Google.
What this means is that updates, in the future, will likely pass
through the hands of HTC and Samsung and not come straight from Google.<br />
HTC and Samsung, could potentially make swift changes to the kernels,
and push out the updates close to the other Nexus devices. However,
there is a chance that these smartphones could see their updates arrive
later down the road. It’s still too early to say and there isn’t much of
a history to point to.<br />
<h2>
$50, $350 More Expensive</h2>
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus is the most expensive option amongst the
smartphones on the Google Play Store. In fact, it’s $50 more expensive
than the HTC One, likely due to the microSD card slot and it’s a
whopping $350 more expensive than the 8GB Nexus 4 which checks in with a
$300 price tag.<br />
This means that users are simply going to have to decide if the extra
$50 or $350 is worth it for a device that has a plastic design and many
of the same features as the HTC One Nexus. The Nexus 4 has some
deficiencies in the hardware department but it’s still a very capable
device.<br />
<h2>
U.S Only, For Now</h2>
Those outside of the United States unfortunately do not have access
to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus or the HTC One Nexus at this point. The
door has been left open for arrivals on other versions of the Google
Play Store but at this point, the Galaxy S4 Nexus is only available in
the United States.<br />
The chances of a Galaxy S4 Nexus outside the United States likely
depends on sales and because we’re only on day one, it’s impossible to
say whether sales are going as well as Google had hoped.<br />
There is definitely demand in regions other than the United States
but it’s not clear if there is enough to provoke Google into offering
these devices in other Google Play Stores.<br />
<h2>
Unlocked</h2>
Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus comes unlocked. What this means
is that users don’t need to sign up for a data plan when buying it and
instead, can take it where they wish.<br />
That means that users who wish to head to AT&T or T-Mobile LTE or
HSPA+ can do so and sign up for a pre-paid data plan. That also means
that users who wish to travel with their phone can easily do so and
utilize the phone on GSM networks around the world. This is perfect for
those that are often on the go either for work or for pleasure.<br />

<a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/BLACKBERRY" target="_blank">BlackBerry</a> launched a service on Tuesday allowing government agencies and corporate clients to secure and manage devices powered by Google Inc's <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/ANDROID" target="_blank">Android</a> platform and <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/APPLE" target="_blank">Apple</a> Inc's <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/06/apple-ios-77-key-features.html" target="_blank">iOS</a> operating system.<br />
The long-anticipated offering, which BlackBerry had said would come out
around mid-year, could help the company sell high-margin services to
its large clients even if many, or all, of their workers are using
smartphones made by its competitors.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/AndroidBlackberry_thumb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="466" src="http://cdn.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/AndroidBlackberry_thumb1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The new Secure Work Space
feature will be managed through BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) 10, a
new back-end system launched at the start of this year that allows
BlackBerry's clients to control mobile devices on their internal
networks.<br />
The company, a one-time pioneer in the smartphone arena, is now fighting to regain ground lost to Apple's <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/IPHONE" target="_blank">iPhone</a> and <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/SAMSUNG" target="_blank">Samsung Electronics</a> Co Ltd's Galaxy devices. To compete, it has rolled out a trio of devices powered by its new BlackBerry 10 operating system.<br />
It hopes to win back users with the Z10, Q10 and Q5 devices that were
unveiled during the first half of this year. The first comprehensive
look at the success of its turnaround plan will likely emerge when it
reports quarterly results on Friday.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
At the same time, it has indicated a shift in emphasis from smartphones to services.<br />
"With an integrated management console, our clients can now see all of
the devices they have on their network, manage those devices and connect
to them securely," David Smith, the head of enterprise mobile computing
at BlackBerry, said in an interview.<br />
"We now also have a secure
work space on Android and iOS that allows our clients to secure and
manage the data on those devices as well."<br />
BlackBerry has
installed some 18,000 BES 10 servers since the system was launched in
January, up from a little more than 12,000 servers one month ago, and
more than 60 percent of U.S. Fortune 500 companies are testing or using
the system.<br />

The feature, when used to manage Android and iOS
devices, will allow IT managers to fence off corporate email, calendars,
contacts, tasks, memos, Web browsing and document editing from personal
apps and content, which could be less secure.<br />

Microsoft Corp will offer its popular “Age of Empires” game for Apple
Inc’s iPhone and other smartphones through a tie-up with Japan’s KLab
Inc, seeking to capture growth in a booming mobile game market.<br />
Microsoft’s gaming business is dependent primarily on its Xbox
franchise but mobile devices have been eating into the gaming industry,
luring consumers away from traditional consoles.<br />

While the tech giant has released a few mobile games for iOS and
Android like Wordament, “Age of Empires” is its most popular game to
date to be offered beyond its own consoles.<br />
The strategy is one that analysts argue other game machine makers
such as Mario Brothers creator Nintendo Co Ltd could consider in a bid
to leverage their software assets.<br />

KLab will develop a mobile version of “Age of Empires” which will be released before the end of March, a KLab spokesperson said.<br />
Shares in KLab were overwhelmed by a glut of buy orders in Tokyo
trade on Tuesday, with its price indicated at 972 yen, 18 percent higher
than its last close.<br />
Contrary to an earlier report, the agreement is only to develop a
mobile version of “Age of Empires” and there were no announcements on
other titles, the two companies said.<br />
The historical strategy game will be released worldwide in English
for iPhones and Andriod-based phones, “with plans to release the game in
other languages and on a Windows Phone in the future,” a Microsoft
spokesperson said.<br />

<a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/SONY" target="_blank">Sony</a> has launched the SmartWatch 2, an update of its <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/search/label/ANDROID" target="_blank">Android</a>-based
watch, while the competition still seems largely to be in development
mode. The company is also hoping to attract users that want a smartphone
with a really big screen with the 6.4-inch <a href="http://the--gadget--info.blogspot.in/2013/04/sony-xperia-z.html" target="_blank">Xperia Z</a> Ultra.
<br />
Smart watches have been in the spotlight recently, with reports that
Apple, Google and Samsung are all working on products. But Sony is
already offering a third-generation device in this category with the
SmartWatch 2, the company said on Tuesday at the Mobile Asia Expo in
Shanghai.
<br />
The SmartWatch 2’s water- and dust-resistant body is made of aluminium
and has integrated support for NFC. The watch has a 1.6-inch screen with
220 x 176 pixel resolution, a slight improvement over the previous
SmartWatch, which had a 1.3-inch screen with a 128 x 128 pixel
resolution, and Sony also promises improved battery life. The SmartWatch
was preceded by the Sony Ericsson LiveView, which the company described
as a wearable wireless micro-display.
<br /><script type="text/javascript"><!--

Sony pitches the SmartWatch 2 as a second screen for Android-based
smartphones. Compatibility has been improved over the previous
generation, and the device should be compatible with most smartphones
based on Google’s OS, according to Sony. It serves as a multi-functional
watch, Android app interface and phone remote control. On the screen
users can read email, text messages and calendar reminders. It is also
integrated with social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. A new SDK
will soon be available for app developers, with added support and new
features for the SmartWatch 2.
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The SmartWatch 2 will start shipping in September, Sony said, without elaborating on price.
<br />
Recently, Sony launched the Open SmartWatch Project,
which will make it possible for developers to create and install
alternative software on the already-released SmartWatch. Sony didn’t say
whether the SmartWatch 2 will become part of the program.
<br />
<figure class=" large"><img alt="Sony Xperia Z Ultra" border="0" height="580" src="http://images.techhive.com/images/idgnsImport/2013/06/id-2042927-0_xperia_z_ultra_black_campaign-100043621-large.jpg" width="580" /><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
While the SmartWatch 2 has one of the smallest screens available on a
mobile device, the Xperia Z Ultra has the largest Full HD smartphone
display at 6.4 inches, according to Sony.
<br />
The waterproof LTE smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800
quad-core processor at 2.2 GHz. There is also an 8-megapixel camera with
HDR for videos and photos. The device is 6.5 millimeters thick and
weighs 212 grams.
<br />
It will compete with products from the likes of Huawei, Asus and last
but not least Samsung Electronics. Just like with Samsung’s Note
products, users can write and sketch on the Xperia Z Ultra’s screen.
<br />
The Xperia Z Ultra will be available globally during the third quarter,
although the exact timing of availability will vary by market, Sony said
without elaborating. Again, the company didn’t say what the device is
expected to cost.
